Over the years we have had many career development conversations with our members and we kicked off our latest career development panel in true Eventprofslive fashion—with curiosity, camaraderie, and a bit of grandeur. Held as part of our Event Profs Live 10-Year Celebration, the panel was woven into a larger experience that brought our community together at the iconic Six Park Place in London. The afternoon combined reflection, networking, and venue exploration—celebrating not just the stories we’ve lived, but the spaces where our journeys unfold.
A Venue That Inspires Possibility
The panel was preceded by an inspiring tour of Six Park Place—a venue that blends historic elegance with modern sophistication. Every room, from the opulent Drawing Room to the intimate Allen Room, offers character, flexibility, and a touch of timeless charm.
Whether you’re planning a sleek boardroom session or an atmospheric evening soirée, Six Park Place has a space to match your mood—eight versatile rooms, seamless AV support, and that rare mix of central London location and peaceful privacy. It’s no wonder this spot has become a go-to for professional gatherings that need something extra in Mayfair.
Panel Reflections: How I Got Here
The “How I Got Here” panel, with Michelle, Kate and Holly as panel members, set the tone with warmth and encouragement. We spoke opening —warts and wonders alike—on the twists and turns of building a career in corporate events.
Over 20 minutes, each speaker peeled back the layers of their journey, including:
- Their entry point into the events industry (spoiler: not always planned)
- Defining moments that shaped their trajectory
- Challenges they faced and what those taught them
- The advice they’d whisper to their younger selves, if only they could
Authenticity filled the room.
Moderated Discussion: Real Talk About Career Growth
Next, we deep-dived into the realities of career development. Highlights included:
- Unexpected Turns: Speakers discussed the roles that challenged and grew them—and how veering off-plan sometimes leads to the best discoveries
- Stepping Beyond Corporate: We explored the benefits of trying agency roles verses where all of our members sit, in corporate
- Stakeholder Buy-In: Practical tips surfaced on building trust, especially when chasing budget approval or senior backing
- Imposter Syndrome & Self-Awareness: We spoke vulnerably about their inner critics and how they’ve built resilience over time
The thread weaving it all together? Trust. In yourself, in your voice, and in the people around you and always be your authentic self.
Audience Q&A: From Curious to Courageous
Our audience didn’t hold back, bringing thoughtful questions and reflective energy. From asking about breaking into the industry to getting advice on navigating career crossroads, it was a lively exchange.
Closing: Words to Remember
We wrapped with a final power question: “What’s your top tip for building a successful career in events”
The responses were short, sweet, and rich with meaning—reminders to stay curious, be kind to yourself, build networks intentionally, and never underestimate what makes you uniquely you.
Six Park Place may have been our host, but the heart of the evening was the stories shared, lessons learned, and relationships forged. Career development isn’t just about the next job title—it’s about finding clarity, community, and courage in the process.
